In 2026, Tendring District Council approved planning permission for 15 supported living units (Class C2) in Clacton-on-Sea — a high-quality specialist accommodation scheme designed for residents with care needs.

The case required proactive management of ecology, highways, biodiversity net gain and drainage concerns, with a multi-disciplinary team coordinated throughout the application process.

Supported Living Scheme Approved by Tendring District Council in Clacton-on-Sea

I secured planning permission from Tendring District Council for a supported living development of 15 units (Use Class C2) in Clacton-on-Sea.

The scheme delivers specialist accommodation designed to provide safe, inclusive and sustainable homes for residents with care needs — addressing a significant and demonstrable local need in this part of north Essex.

Securing permission for this scheme required careful and proactive management of a wide range of technical and consultee requirements.

Ecology surveys were commissioned and mitigation strategies prepared to demonstrate that impacts could be appropriately managed. The scheme exceeds the statutory 10% Biodiversity Net Gain requirement.

On highways, a transport assessment and travel plan were prepared and agreed with the Authority.

A sustainable drainage strategy was incorporated to manage surface water responsibly and in compliance with lead local flood authority requirements.

Tendring District Council approved the application.
