In 2022, I secured advertisement consent from the City of London Corporation for two new signs on a commercial premises at Newgate Street, EC1A — a non-illuminated fascia sign and an externally illuminated projecting hanging sign.
The site falls within the Newgate Street Conservation Area, which required careful attention to heritage impact and the negotiation of reduced illumination levels to satisfy conservation standards.
Advertisement Consent in the City of London
I obtained advertisement consent from the City of London Corporation for signage at Newgate Street, London EC1A 7AE.
The approved package comprised a non-illuminated fascia sign measuring 0.4m high and 4.6m wide, positioned 4.6m above ground level, and an externally illuminated projecting hanging sign measuring 0.7m by 0.7m at 3m above ground level.
The site falls within the Newgate Street Conservation Area. Any new signage in this location must respect the heritage sensitivity of the area and avoid causing harm to its historic character.
The primary negotiation concerned illumination. I engaged proactively with the City of London's planning team and secured agreement for the illumination.
The consent was granted for five years from November 2022 under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regulations 2007, in compliance with Local Plan policies CS10, CS12, DM10.6 and DM12.2.
