Colchester City Council Approves a New Medical Endoscopy Centre

In 2023, Colchester City Council approved planning permission for the demolition of a derelict former GP surgery in Colchester and its replacement with a new medical endoscopy centre and seven residential staff apartments.

I was brought in after the application had stalled due to outstanding planning issues. By leading the project team to resolve concerns around landscape, arboriculture, parking and design, I was able to guide the application through to a successful outcome.

Planning Permission for a New Medical Endoscopy Centre

Planning permission was obtained from Colchester City Council for a new medical endoscopy centre in Colchester.

The scheme involved the demolition of a former GP surgery that had stood empty for several years and had become dilapidated and no longer fit for purpose.

In its place, a contemporary mixed-use development was proposed: a diagnostic endoscopy centre providing a specialist medical procedure service, together with seven residential units to serve as staff accommodation.

I was brought in after the application had already been submitted but had stalled due to unresolved planning issues.

Those issues primarily concerned landscape and arboricultural impacts, parking provision, and aspects of the building design that needed refinement to ensure no harm to neighbouring amenity.

Taking over the project lead, I coordinated the specialist consultants required to resolve each issue — arboricultural, landscape, transport — and ensured the revised design satisfied the Council's concerns without compromising the quality of the architectural vision.

Colchester City Council granted planning permission once all outstanding matters had been resolved.
