In 2011, I submitted representations on behalf of a London-based commercial property company with a substantial multi-let workspace portfolio to the Newham Core Strategy Pre-Submission consultation.

Newham was at a pivotal moment in its development trajectory, with the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games driving major investment and regeneration across the borough and creating significant opportunities and challenges for commercial property owners.

Representations to the core strategy focused on ensuring that the policy framework governing employment and mixed-use sites was sufficiently flexible to respond to the post-Olympic transformation of the local economy.

Newham's rapid change meant that rigid land use policies risked becoming outdated quickly, and the case for flexible, evidence-driven criteria was particularly compelling in this context.

The pre-submission representations provided an important opportunity to influence the strategic direction of Newham's planning policy at a critical point in the borough's development.
