In 2025, Colchester City Council approved planning permission for the comprehensive transformation of a family home in Wivenhoe — including a two-storey rear extension, an open-plan kitchen and living area, an additional bedroom, a garage conversion and a new timber-clad outbuilding.
The scheme was designed in contemporary style with painted brickwork, a large feature window and an oak-framed veranda.
Wivenhoe Home Modifications Granted Planning Permission by Colchester
I secured planning permission from Colchester City Council for a substantial extension and renovation at a family home in Wivenhoe, Essex.
The approved scheme represents a carefully designed transformation of a modest existing property into a spacious and contemporary family home.
The principal element was a two-storey rear extension, providing a large open-plan kitchen and dining area at ground level with a new bedroom above.
The extension was designed with painted brickwork, contemporary detailing and a large feature window — creating a striking rear elevation that also brings generous natural light into the heart of the home.
A separate single-storey outbuilding was approved to the rear of the garden, timber-clad and finished to a high specification, providing a versatile space for a home office or studio.
The existing integral garage was converted to provide additional habitable accommodation at ground floor — a common and efficient way to gain space without extending the footprint.
Colchester City Council was satisfied that the proposals were acceptable in design and amenity terms and granted planning permission.
