In 2025, Uttlesford District Council approved Reserved Matters planning permission for a new contemporary dwelling in a rural hamlet near the historic town of Thaxted in Essex.
The scheme combined traditional materials — locally characteristic brick and timber — with a modern design approach to create a new home that responds sensitively to its rural setting.
Uttlesford District Council Approved a Contemporary New Family Home
In 2025, I secured Reserved Matters planning permission from Uttlesford District Council for a new dwelling in a quiet hamlet nestled in the open countryside near Thaxted, one of Uttlesford's most characterful historic towns.
The plot lies to the rear of an existing dwelling and is accessed via a private driveway — a backland arrangement that offered privacy and a strong sense of seclusion, whilst maintaining a clear functional relationship with the established built form of the hamlet.
The design was developed through a detailed analysis of the local context.
Uttlesford District Council approved the application.
