From April 2026, the planning appeals process has been simplified, with most appeals for applications submitted from 1 April 2026 initially following a new Part 1 written representations procedure.

The simplified approach is intended to make appeals faster and more proportionate, with the Planning Inspector generally considering the evidence and information that was before the Council when it made its decision.

This makes it increasingly important to ensure that the planning application is properly prepared and supported by the necessary evidence from the outset.
